If you are creating or building a website, listen up! Creating a domain name is easily one of the most important parts of creating a website. You need to make sure that your domain works well for your site. The domain name should be something that is relevant to your site, is interesting, and is available. The big problem is that a lot of great domains are already taken. You shouldn’t give up though, with these tips, you will be able to come up with a great domain name.

1. Use domain name similar to your business. If you have a company named Petts for All, name your domain, www.pettsforall.com. It will make it really easy for people that are searching for your business to find you. This is known as your branded domain name. However, if that domain name is already taken, you might want to search for other domains that are similar to your company name.

2. Use keywords. As a website creator, you want to have lots of people going to your site. A great way to do this is if you created a domain name that has a lot of main keywords from your site. This will increase your rankings in various search engines. This will make it so that it is easier for people to find you. For example, if you sell pet supplies, if you have a domain with the keyword, pet or supplies, it will be easier for people to find you.

3. Make it short and sweet. Make your domain as short as you can. If it’s too long, people will tend to forget it. If you have a short domain name it will probably be easier to spell and people will remember it!

4. Be creative with your domain name. Come up with something that is easy to remember, but hard to forget. Do a little research and you can come up with some great things! Chances are, the most generic names are already taken. This gives you a chance to come up with something that is truly unique.

5. Use a different extension. This is a last resort idea. If you have found that you can’t find any good domain names, you might want to switch from a .com extension to a .biz, .org. Those extensions aren’t as widely used, and you will be able to get a great domain name.
